So you want to build yer studio, eh dude, ahem dudette... (Cool! we need more dudettes round here.) First you connect your keyboard to the computer. This can be done in many ways.

Some keyboards have built in USB MIDI interfaces that use the familiar USB cable that comes with inkjet printers. Others have standard 5 pin MIDI jacks. The keyboard in this picture has both:

If you have a soundcard or audio interface with MIDI jacks, great! Plug in your keyboard with a standard MIDI cable.

If not, you will need some kind of adapter cable. There are many brands of these stand alone USB MIDI interface cables that allow you to connect your computer to the MIDI In and Out of your keyboard.
